This will be an overview of human food labeling requirements under the authority of U.S. FDA. Discussion includes select contrast with USDA food labeling and Canadian food labeling considerations.

This online training program is modeled closely on the successful in class training that has been offered for the past 15 years. The live online version is presented in two parts. The first part focuses on knowledge exchange, where attendees will be introduced and stepped through food labeling requirements. There are 2 separate knowledge exchange sessions needed to cover the content. Attendees may ask questions at the live session. The second part is a live online practicum where, as a group, we will review the assignments introduced to attendees during the knowledge exchange part, to complete on their own. The practicum focuses on the knowledge skills on managing food labeling requirements.

Designed to provide a comprehensive overview of food labeling under the authority of U.S. FDA. This is a solid overview of food labeling requirements and considerations. Topics of focus include the new nutrition facts panel. At the end of the program, you will be able to:

  •   Understand the role of various Federal agencies, like FD, FTC and CBP in governing food. Emphasis is on FDA.
  •   Better appreciate and organize mandatory label features, like the common name, net content, ingredient list, allergen information, nutrition facts and domicile statement.
  •  Be introduced to other labeling features such as country of origin, warning statements, storage and handling statements, etc. 
  •   Have more confidence in managing allergen labeling.
  •   Become better acquainted with the changes finalized related to mandatory nutrition labeling.
  •  Be introduced to US nutrient content and health claims.
  •  Be introduced to additional label claims and statements such as “natural”, non-GMO, gluten free, etc.

The goal is for learners to be more aware and competent of food labeling requirements under the authority of the U.S. FDA.

This training is suitable for beginners. It is a high-density content training program but learns have access to recording to review content of training.

Il s'agira d'un aperçu des exigences en matière d'étiquetage de l'alimentation humaine sous l'autorité de la FDA américaine. La discussion portera notamment sur les différences entre l'étiquetage des aliments de l'USDA et les considérations relatives à l'étiquetage des aliments canadiens.

Ce programme de formation en ligne s'inspire étroitement de la formation en classe donnée avec succès au cours des 15 dernières années. La version en ligne en direct est présentée en deux parties. Axée sur l’échange des connaissances, la première partie permettra de présenter les participants et de les guider parmi les exigences en matière d'étiquetage des aliments. Deux séances d'échange de connaissances distinctes sont nécessaires pour couvrir le contenu. Les participants peuvent poser des questions lors de la séance en direct. La deuxième partie est une séance de travaux pratiques en ligne en direct où, en groupe, nous passerons en revue les devoirs présentés aux participants lors de la partie d'échange de connaissances, afin qu'ils les accomplissent par eux-mêmes. La séance de travaux pratiques se concentre sur les connaissances et les compétences en matière de gestion des exigences d'étiquetage alimentaire.
